Personal Equipment

Energy and Power

TL12^ power cells per UT5f, store energy as antimatter. Vehicles, buildings use AM power plants (see Schlock Mercenary, another SF setting that uses AM plants). AM manufactured by factories orbiting O, B, and giant stars (see Wikipedia Stellar classification).

Communication and Information Gear

  • Data Net: All developed TDEC worlds, including Earth and the human colony worlds, have a ubiquitous wireless data net accessible to all communication and information gear. This includes human-made equipment manufactured before Contact, which was "upgraded" (infiltrated/compromised) by alien nanotech shortly after Contact.
  • Implant Communicator: reference THS148. 10 mi range, $62.50, chrysalis surgery $125.00. Almost all TDEC aliens have Implant Communicators for constant data net access.
  • Communicator: reference THS148-9 Radios. Cost x0.25, duration x2. Gravity-ripple option (reference Vehicles p. 48) available for Medium and Long range, for additional x2 range. Gravity-ripple is standard on vehicles.
  • Micro-Communicator: On undeveloped worlds with no established data net, TDEC equipment uses short-range micro-communicators as described on IW24.
  • Translation Program: NAI (THS119) translation programs are available on the data nets. They allow communication at the Accented level in any known language. Since the translation goes through the user's brain, use of a translation program counts as full-immersion training. There are no "universal translators," so translation is not available for unknown languages.
  • Palmtop Computer reference IW24. The TDEC version has a holographic display rather than a screen. Uses a mindlock for security. There is usually no self-destruct. Complexity 9, storage 10PB, duration 30h.
