alternate Earth
A version of the Earth in an alternate universe where history went differently.
alternate universe
Essentially, a version of our universe where history has gone differently. Common science fiction use of the concept usually involves alternate versions of the Earth where human history has gone differently. However, in a majority of the alternate universes accessible to TDEC, history diverged before the Solar System formed and the Earth doesn't even exist. In those alternates where Earth does exist, history diverged millions or billions of years ago, before humans evolved.
local paracluster
Earth and those alternate versions of Earth accessible with TDEC parachronics.
para-
Having to do with paraspace.
parachronic
Term borrowed from GURPS Infinite Worlds by Steve Jackson Games. Refers to the equipment needed to travel through paraspace, its design and maintenance.
paracluster
Alternate versions of a particular world form a cluster in paraspace. Parachronic technology can be used to travel between worlds in a paracluster. The local paracluster consists of Earth and its alternates.
paraspace
The common name for so-called imaginary time, which exists at right angles to normal time. Paraspace is where alternate universes exist. Travel to alternate universes involves displacement along the imaginary-time axis.
