Generic TDEC Alien

Fourth-Level mentalities. Instinctively resistant to logical fallacies, formal and informal. Emotions are subordinate to reason. Much better instinct for probability and statistics than humans, particularly when very large or very small numbers are involved. Better at estimating long-term risk. Long temporal horizons -- they plan ahead for generations and millennia. Part of the reason overt technological progress is so slow. Advantage is a lot less "oh my god this has side effects!" than humans have experienced. Much bigger short-term memory -- about 21 items at once. Better at choosing among many options and handling complex concepts than humans. Everyday communication is at what would be college level for humans. Details.

Grimmans

Fourth level. A race of short but powerfully-built humanoids. Height is usually four and a half to five feet, but they're stronger than the human average and very tough. Skin, eyes, and hair are varying shades of gray. Aside from this they are very human-looking. Males resemble Olympic weightlifters in build; females are built like gymnasts or ballerinas. Their relationship with the other members of TDEC has been rather rocky. Some of the other members feel that the Grimmans are not quite ready for membership and the acceptance of their application was premature. Their rapid (for a fourth-level society) technological development, taking them dangerously near fields best left to fifth-level societies, has not helped correct this impression. Details.

Humans

Third level. A race of nearly hairless, bipedal primates who have developed language and complex tools. Their shamans' unfortunate, premature discovery of the scientific method has resulted in a complex, technological society well beyond the humans' mental capacity to manage sustainably. The aliens expect it to collapse any century now. The Threans have charitably moved in to preserve cultural information from destruction and try to prevent the total extinction of the human race.
